Development of a Usability Metric for Reading Displays in High Ambient Lighting Conditions
Predicting the readability of a display in harsh lighting conditions requires knowledge of the ambient lighting levels and reflections to be taken into account in addition to the contrast ratio performance of the display. The University of Abertay through the ENDSENSE project has developed a spreadsheet which can yield the JND (Just Noticeable Difference) usability metric for displays in different lighting conditions. This spreadsheet is available for download by signing in below.
For further information on the application of the JND spreadsheet to your display system, please contact Colin Cartwright at the University of Abertay.
